The Mid-Asian Ibex is one of the most iconic species of Central Asia and the Capra genus.
Their signature profile defined by the bold arc of their sturdy horns and robust body exude the remote mountain hunting experience.
Of all Asia’s mountain game, Mid-Asian Ibex is often the species of choice when either sampling or kicking off a full Asian Ovis and Capra mountain hunting career. They are plentiful across their natural range in several countries, and they are affordable to hunt compared to other Asian and North American mountain game.
Where We Hunt Them: The choices are many; Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. Each destination offers significant populations of ibex roughly similar in cost to hunt. The choice of destination may have more to do with availability of other species available in combination
Hunt Strategy: Hunting by horseback rules most Mid-Asian Ibex hunts, the one exception being Tajikistan where vehicles assist Marco Polo hunts and are leveraged to access higher territory where the ibex are more typically found. Another exception could be hunting by foot after helicopter insertion into high a mountain spike camp. But overall, think steady and well-behaved horses led by expert horsemen-hunting guides heading up and over some of the most beautiful terrain on Earth. You’ll still have to walk for the final stalk, and physical fitness is always a difference maker in the mountains. Prepare for shots of 300-600 yards in big open country.
Season: Varies by country. Generally, September through mid-December, and into January / February in Tajikistan to correspond with the late season Marco Polo hunts.
Length of Hunt: 5 to 7 days depending on location plus travel time.
Options / Major Species: Marco Polo Argali, Pamir Ibex, Matison Argali, Hume Argali (Marco Polo), Maral Stag and Siberian Roebuck. Please inquire about various options and timing for more specific understanding of the options for combination hunts.
