Bezoar Ibex

Among the world’s great mountain game, few animals possess the distinctive elegance and imposing presence of the Bezoar Ibex. Native to the rugged mountains of Turkey, this remarkable ibex has long captivated mountain hunters with its striking appearance, powerful build, and extraordinary horns.

Specie / Hunt Description

Considered the most beautiful of all the ibex, the Bezoar Ibex of Turkey has sharply contrasting skin markings and the largest horn-to-body size ratio of all the ibex, placing them high on the mountain hunter’s list of priority animals.

Permits are limited and the best trophy area permits are even more limited. 10 years ago, the government was issuing 400 bezoar hunting permits each year. Since that time, the number of permits has dropped to about 185 while demand has increased significantly.

4 pricing tiers correspond to the historical trophy quality production and potential of different hunting area classes (i.e., standard, premium (2), and custom premium areas).

Getting There: Hunters will be met in Ankara and assisted with firearms clearance. Depending on flight arrival times, hunters will either overnight or connect directly by road to the hunting area by SUV, involving 1-2.5 hours depending on the permitted area to be hunted.

Hunt Strategy: A network of well-maintained forestry roads allows vehicle access deep and high into prime Bezoar territory. The hunting team will stop frequently at promising glassing points, and the final stalk will be on foot once a suitable trophy is located. Guides are exceedingly professional and well experienced in judging trophy quality.

Ibex terrain is mountainous – a mix of open rock faces and rocky outcroppings in forested areas. Most Bezoar are taken roughly between 1,500-2,500 meters (approx. 5,000-8,000 ft.). Shots are typically long – from 350-550 meters (approx. 400-600 yds.) on average.

Season: The season extends from August 1 through March 31. Mid-November to early January is prime time (rut) but February/March are also excellent.

Length of Hunt: Allocate 5 days for hunting + 2 in-country travel days + 1-2 international travel days.

Options: Various combination hunts with Bezoar Ibex are possible, including Konya Mouflon, Coastal Ibex, Hybrid Ibex, Anatolian Chamois, Mid-Eastern Red Deer, and Wild Boar (the world’s largest). Please inquire about individual and combination hunt options in Turkey.
