Northern Pakistan’s magnificent high mountain terrain offers a striking contrast to the arid deserts of the south. Its rugged peaks and remote valleys provide habitat for iconic wildlife, including the Himalayan Ibex, Markhor, and elusive Snow Leopard, making it a remarkable destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
Notably one of the Capra crown jewels, the remote, high, and rugged setting of the Himalayan Ibex is the signature environment most identify with ibex hunting anywhere is Asia. Their blocky go-anywhere bodies defy the rocks, altitude, and weather quite naturally, making getting into their domain an accomplishment in itself.
Standard and Premium hunting zones dictate permit costs and hunt pricing. But hunts are affordable.
Getting There: Flights arrive in Islamabad by various routes and the Istanbul hub is the most frequently used. Gilgit or Skardu is the next stop using a connecting flight, or by road if weather prevents flying. We use various hotels, some of which are termed 5-Star for their amenities, and village inns or guesthouses for accommodations.
Hunt Strategy: These are classic spot and stalk hunts in targeted areas where pre-scouting by expert guides makes hunts more efficient. Physical fitness can be a difference maker if ascending to 8,000-11,000 feet or higher is required. Prepare for shots of 300-600 yards in big open country.
Season: November – March. Males typically descend during December – January for the rut.
Length of Hunt: 10 days
Options / Major Species: Punjab Urial, Afghan Urial, Blanford Urial, Sindh Ibex, the Markhors, and Blue Sheep (a classic combination with Ibex).
Try ‘‘Ibex’ or ‘Boar’
