Enchanting, historical Mongolia is home to some of the most elite Ovis and Capra species. The four variants of Argali get top billing, but the Altai and Gobi Ibex provide an equally thrilling cultural and mountain hunting experiences for significantly less cost.
Altai Ibex are hunted in their namesake Altai Mountains in the West while the vast Gobi Desert in the central south bordering China is home to its brother, the Gobi Ibex. Hunters can hunt one specie or both and we organize seamless logistics to move hunters between respective camps and hunting areas for combo hunts.
Both species thrive in significant numbers. Altai Ibex will generally measure greater in length around the curve. But The Gobi are equally attractive and challenging to hunt.
Getting There: We meet hunters in the bustling modern capital of Ulaanbaatar usually on flights arriving from Istanbul, South Korea or China. After we clear firearms at Customs, hunters may stay overnight in a hotel, take a connecting flight immediately, or drive to the camp depending on arrival time in Ulaanbaatar, distances to camp, and domestic flight schedules.
Hunt Strategy: These are spot and stalk hunts, but SUVs are used to penetrate deep into ibex territories. Although the terrain is mountainous, the ground is treeless and covered with short grass and fine pebbled rock making road travel over, up, and down the mountains remarkably easy. In some cases, we use a combination of SUV and horses, stopping at high glassing points to locate herds and plan the approach.
